Friends of the School
Introduction
The Friends of Ripon Cathedral School is a group of parents who get together to think of ways to raise money for extra equipment and resources and have some fun along the way.
We meet up once a term or half-term (often in a pub!) to chat about ideas for events, activities and also what we would like to spend the money on. In the past we have funded fantastic projects, including the reading raffle, musical instruments, new play areas, audio and sports equipment, outdoor play apparatus and the Daily Mile all weather track.
Our most recent AGM was held on 6th October 2023:
A core group of parents met at the pub on Wednesday evening for the AGM of the Friends of the School. The location should give you a clue, this really is a group which it is enjoyable to be part of! We do understand that not everyone can commit a lot of time, but meetings are only once a term or so. We would love new people to come along to inject some fresh ideas, both for fundraising and community events. Your participation would, of course, benefit the whole school. However, you might also find your own child will feel like a very special part of school when they see you in action and will be proud of what you are doing, which will improve their own self-confidence and participation levels. This is based on the testimony of a member of the Friends' committee! Last year was successful both in terms of fundraising and getting families and friends together socially (but new ideas still welcome!), particularly at the Christmas and Summer Fairs. A £4000 cheque was presented to school, which funded the leavers' hoodies and some of the fantastic, new outdoor gym equipment. There is still a good working balance in the bank account as well.
If you think that you could help in any way, whether it’s attending meetings, coming up with new fundraising ideas or volunteering to help at events, we would love to hear from you. We’re also looking for anyone with skills they can share with us. Are you good at book-keeping, great at designing posters, or do you have a talent for face-painting? Just ask your child's class teacher how to get in touch with us, and they will point you in the direction of a Friend.
If everyone gave up just 30 minutes of their time to help the Friends, just think what we could achieve!
