Our main topic themes for the year are:

What makes the coast such a unique place? How can we upcycle to care for the environment? |
Spring |
What is our solar system? Which month is best to make a sweet treat? |
Summer |
What is Amazonas like compared with Yorkshire and the French Alps? How can we possibly know so much about the Ancient Greeks? |

Supporting your child at home - Information for Parents
Weekly updates will be posted on Class Dojo to inform parents of any upcoming events, the areas of learning that will be covered that week, as well as any homework.
Maths
In Year 5 we ask children to support their learning of times tables through the use of Times Tables Rockstars at school and at home.
Reading
Children are encouraged to read every night and record this in their reading diaries. All children have access to a wide variety of books, having the opportunity to choose a book of their choice and also a book levelled at their ability. Parents can support their children's learning through reading with them every day, taking children to the local library to read about our topics. In Year 5, children also use Dreambox Reading (formally known as Reading Plus), an online reading package that helps children to develop their ability to read at speed, comprehend different types of texts and learn new vocabulary. Children are encouraged to access this at home to support their reading.
Spelling
We send home spellings on a Thursday, which can be found in their reading diaries for their spelling test on a Tuesday.
