Welcome to Year 1; we have an exciting year of learning with great experiences and events planned for the children. We are excited to help them achieve their potential during their time with us.

Our main topic themes for the year: UNDER REVIEW FOR 2024-25 SCHOOL YEAR:

 Autumn

Who am I? How are things built?

 Spring

What is our world like? How do plants grow?

Summer

How have plants changed? What makes animals unique?

To support our understanding of our topics we have planned exciting visits which will enrich our learning and give the children new and exciting experiences.

Every child will receive a Little Wandle reading book to take home on a Thursday and will  return these on a Monday. This book will have been read by your child in 3 group reading sessions, please continue to support your child with fluency with additional home reading sessions.

From Autumn 2 children will receive weekly spelling home work linked to our Little Wandle sessions. Children will be tested on six of these spellings on a Thursday.

We recommend the free app White Rose 1 minute maths. This will support your child's learning at school.

In Year 1 children are encouraged to read every day for adults and to record this in their reading diaries.

All children have access to a wide variety of books. Parents can support their children's learning through sharing stories and the pleasure of reading, discussing topics we are learning in class and giving the children the opportunity to apply learning in a range of scenarios or real life situations.
